The two kinds of information we handle

There is a difference worth understanding between information about you and content you create.

Information about you is what we collect to run your account and this website: your email address, your login, server logs, and our own records of how the product is used. This policy is mostly about that.

Content you create is what you build in the product: your Models — table names, field names, settings, and any values you type in. We store it for you and process it only to provide the service, at your direction. We do not use your Model content for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to build profiles of you or anyone else. Your Models may describe your real product or business even though the data generated from them is invented, and — despite the Terms of Service prohibition — a Model could contain real personal information someone typed in. Whatever a Model contains, our handling of it is the same: it is processed to provide the service and for the other limited purposes described in this policy, and nothing else.

What we collect and why

If you join a product or feature launch list

An email address you gave us, and which list you asked for.

If you join a launch or update list, we store your email address, the product or feature you registered for updates about, and the date you signed up. We use it to email you about that product or feature — launch news and meaningful updates. Every one of those emails includes a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly. We do not use launch-list addresses for anything else described in this policy without telling you first, and we never give them to anyone else to send you their marketing.

If you create an account

An email address you gave us, and a record of what you agreed to.

If you create an account, we store your email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our login provider and stored only in scrambled (hashed) form. We also record the date you agreed to the beta notice, our Terms of Service, and this Privacy Policy, and which wording you were shown, so that we can say what you agreed to. We also store which plan your account is on, and whether you have dismissed the beta notice. We may send account holders email about the product — what's new, what's changing, and, when we launch paid plans, what they are. Marketing-style emails always include an unsubscribe link. Service emails — password resets, security notices, changes to these policies, warnings that something you rely on is going away — are part of running your account, and you will receive those for as long as you have an account.

Models you save

Your own words, in your account.

If you save a Model, we store the setup you built: the Model name, your table and field names, and the settings and values you typed in, such as the list of options you gave a category, and a count of how many tables it has and how many rows it would produce. We do not store the rows generated from your Models. Your saved Models are private to your account: other users cannot see them, and the people who run this company do not browse them. We access the contents of a stored Model only when needed to operate or secure the service, to investigate a problem you have reported, to enforce our Terms of Service, or as the law requires.

Do not put real personal information about anyone into a Model. The product invents data, so there is no reason to type in real names, real customer records, or anything similar — and the Terms of Service prohibit it. If we learn that a Model contains personal information that our Terms of Service do not allow, we may remove or delete it and may suspend the account that uploaded it.

Generated data

Data rows are generated on your own machine, in your browser. They are not sent to us, and we do not store them. What you generate is yours to keep and use. We store the settings of your Model so that you can regenerate the same data later with only the dates changing, but we do not store the generated output itself. If we ever add features that store generated data with us — for example, team features or an API — we will update this policy first and tell you before they apply to you.

If you send us feedback

Your own words, sent by you.

The Feedback button, and the Open email button on our error screen, open your own email program with your message and a short block of context already written into it: the page you were on, the kind of field you had open (for example "a Number field"), how many tables and fields your Model has, the as-of date it is set to, your browser and operating system, which version of the site you were using, and any error the app ran into while you had it open. The pre-filled block does not include your Model, your values, or the names you gave your tables and fields, except where an error message quotes one back. You are shown the whole block before you send it, and you can edit or delete any part of it. When you do send it, we keep your message and your email address so we can read it and reply, and we keep feedback correspondence as long as it is useful for improving the product.

How the product is used

Our records, with no account identifier.

We keep our own records of which parts of the product get used and where people run into limits, so we can decide what to fix and build next. These records carry no account identifier. They may note which Model was involved, and because your Models belong to your account, a record can be traced back to you. When you delete your account, your Models are deleted as well, so nothing remains that connects the records to you. They are our description of what happened rather than yours — for example, "a Model with a category field hit the row limit," not the names or values in that Model. They do not include the names or values inside your Models or the data your Models produce. We do not share these records outside the company and our service providers.

Server logs

These are collected automatically by our providers.

Standard server logs, which include IP addresses, are kept for security and reliability — spotting abuse, debugging failures, and keeping the service up. We do not use them to build profiles, and we keep them no longer than 30 days, except where a specific log is preserved longer to investigate a security incident or as the law requires.

What we store in your browser

We store things in your browser so the product works and remembers your choices: your sign-in session, your light-or-dark theme choice, the Models you are working on (so closing the tab does not lose them), whether you have dismissed the builder's guide or the beta notice, whether you have collapsed the preview, whether you have already told us you want to hear about Pro so we do not ask you again, and a note that your account agreed to the beta notice. Each visit is also given a random label, held in memory only while the tab is open, so we can tell one visit apart from another; it is not reused next time. The site also keeps the last few errors it runs into in your browser's memory so it has something to show you if you choose to send feedback; those are forgotten when you close the tab and never leave your browser unless you send them yourself.

We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies, and no third party collects information about your activity over time and across other websites through our service. The only outside code that runs in your browser is a bot check, described under "When we disclose information," which tells a person from a script. Because we do not track you across sites, there is nothing for a browser "Do Not Track" signal to turn off; we treat all visitors the way a Do-Not-Track user would ask to be treated.

When we disclose information

We use a small number of companies to run the service — currently a hosting provider for the website, a database-and-accounts provider that stores your account and saved Models, an email provider, and a bot protection provider that receives your IP address to check whether a form was filled in by a person — and each handles data to provide its service to us, under terms that require it to protect what it handles. If we add a category of provider that handles your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.

Beyond that, we disclose information only: (a) if required by law — for example, in response to a subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process, and where we are permitted to do so, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you before disclosing your information; (b) if reasonably necessary to investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, or a security incident, or to protect the safety of any person; (c) to enforce our Terms of Service; or (d) as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets — in which case the information transferred remains subject to the promises of the policy that was in effect when it was collected, and we will notify you of any such transfer.

We do not sell your information. We do not rent it or trade it, and we do not give it to anyone for their own marketing or advertising.

What we don't do

There is no advertising on the service and no advertisers behind it. We do not sell your information, for money or for anything else. We do not use third-party ad trackers, pixels, or session-recording tools. We do not use your Models, or what they contain, to advertise to you or to anyone else. We do not use your Model contents to train AI. And we do not build profiles of you from the way you use the product.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we hold — including encryption of data in transit (TLS), hashed password storage through our login provider, and access to production systems limited to the people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security incident affects your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

How long we keep things

Launch-list addresses are kept until we launch and tell you about it, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, whichever comes first. Account details and saved Models are kept for as long as your account exists or until you delete the Model. Deleting your account deletes your account details, your saved Models, and your address from our update lists. Deletion takes effect immediately in the product, though residual copies may survive for a short time in server logs and in any routine backups, which are deleted in the ordinary course. Feedback correspondence is kept as long as it is useful for improving the product. We keep our records of how the product is used for up to two years, then delete them. We may retain specific information longer where needed to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our Terms of Service, and we may keep aggregated or de-identified records — which no longer describe any identifiable person, and which we commit not to re-identify — indefinitely.

Your choices and your rights

You can see your account information on the Account page, set a new password using the Forgot password link, and delete your entire account there. You may request to change your email address by contacting hello@asofnow.io. You can delete one or all of your Models on the My Models page. You can unsubscribe from any marketing email with the link in that email. And whoever you are and wherever you live, you can email privacy@asofnow.io to ask us: what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to send you a copy of it in a portable format. We answer within 30 days. We will take reasonable steps to confirm you are the account holder before acting — normally by requiring the request to come from, or be confirmed by, the email address on the account — and we do not charge for these requests. If we decline a request (for example, because we cannot verify it), we will tell you why, and you can ask us to take a second look.

We do not treat any of these rights as limited to residents of particular states or countries, and exercising them does not change how the service works for you.

Where the service and your information live

The service is operated from the United States, our providers store information in the United States, and this policy is written to United States law. If you use the service from somewhere else, you are choosing to send your information to the United States, where privacy law may differ from your country's. The rights in "Your choices" above are available to you wherever you live.

Children

The service is not for children. Our Terms of Service require users to be at least 18, and the service is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly. We do not ask your age, and we do not want to know it — there is no reason for the product to.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and keep an archive of earlier versions. If a change is significant — new categories of data collected, new uses, new sharing — we will tell you before it takes effect: by email if we have your address, or by a notice in the product. A change never reaches backward: information collected while an earlier version was in effect stays governed by the promises we made in that version, unless you affirmatively agree otherwise.
